Why are Google Business Reviews Important? What can you do about them?

Google reviews carry a lot of weight when it comes to potential customers, your company’s visibility, and last but not least the Google rank for local search results.  I will begin to discuss how each of these web factors is affected by your Google review profile.

First of all, online reviews are a way for customers for to communicate about the quality of a company’s product or service, or their overall experience transacting with the specific company.  Most consumers will consider the review profile of a company or product when comparing alternative solutions.  Lacking positive reviews, quality written reviews, or lacking reviews in general may bring into question the legitimacy of the firm. A peer review is something that is unparalleled in terms of a valued opinion. Scientists, doctors, lawyers all submit their work to peer review. So it’s not much different when it comes to consumers. A surplus of negative reviews on a company’s Google business/maps page will often result in a very low conversion rate.

Your local search results are also affected by your company’s review profile, user interaction, and the reviewer’s profile attributes. Attributes of a reviewers profile is also used in the filtering algorithm by determining how likely the person is to have used your service. It considers their Google + profile activity, whether or not they’re a member of local guides, amount of friends they have etc. The more quality constituents and reviewers you have the better your search results will be.

What are my options to improve a firm’s review profile on Google?

  1. Improve your firm’s service, product, or customer relations.
  2. Incentivize reviews (be careful about the methods used to accomplish this, for though it was once encouraged it can now result in penalty’s and filtered reviews)
  3.  Purchase Google reviews to enhance your online presence (also use caution while using this method)

There is not currently any avenue you can take to dispute negative and or false reviews, but if you believe a violation of the law has been made – you may consider filing a civil lawsuit against the person slandering your name or company.
